Advice to give to a 17 year old:

  • Get access to the NHS App when you can as that is the way to start taking control of your medical history
  • Understand how to book appointments with your GP
  • Use something like www.patientsknowbest.com in case hospitals start to book appointments using it
  • Express your preferences about how you want the NHS to use your data via the National Data Opt-out
  • Decide if you want a Summary Care Record and opt-out via your GP if you don’t
  • Always keep a scanned copy of your ID in case you need to upload it
  • Make sure when you hit 18 you register for the HMRC App and get access to your tax records
  • If you are going to drive, pay your car tax by monthly direct debit – that way you can always prove that the DVLA know about you
